Paul Galea

“I am retired paediatrician who has always had a desire to take up painting but never found the time until
retiral 6 years ago. I originate from Malta and have lived and practiced medicine in Glasgow for the past 45 years. I started painting from scratch 3 years ago, attended art classes in acrylic painting at Neil Macdonald in Kirkintilloch and continued to experiment on my own during the past 9 months of lockdown. All the paintings I have submitted have been painted since March 2020. I take my inspiration mostly from photos which I take whenever I am out walking or travelling. I like to paint most topics but am especially attracted to portraiture which I find both challenging and difficult but satisfying. A morning spent painting while listening to Classical FM is a great way to relax!”

Elke Hinton

” Elke has been painting as a hobby all her life. For her, painting is a means of interpreting the world around her, as well as expressing her ‘inner world’. She is a member of two Art Clubs and enjoys discourse with other artists. Her paintings shown here are a cross section of previous work. They are not available for sale but she is happy to take commissions. “

John Hinton

” John had an early training in drawing from the age of five until completing a course in art at a college of education when he was 21. He has always been focussed on structure and tonal contrast in his painting – the latter probably due to his colour blindness. One of his favourite artists is Cezanne.
His paintings usually arise from his memories or from photographs he has taken, when he lets his imagination take over. Topics are often influenced by his career as a biological scientist, from his music-making and his love of nature.”

Les Johnstone

” Les Johnstone died last year. He was 77 and born in Glasgow. He was especially interested in all types of war art. He also enjoyed sketching buildings and castles. He had a love of perspective. “

Colin Martin

” I started painting in watercolour and pastels when I retired in 2014, and now paint mainly in acrylic medium. I paint from photographs that I’ve taken, with favoured subjects being landscapes, street scenes, and boats from Scotland, and travels in China and elsewhere. My pictures have not been framed “

Sieglinde Roelcke

” Sieglinde Roelcke took up painting in 2015 and has taken strides in this art, in self-taught fashion, since then. She is inspired by nature, and by any place that she has visited and loved. Being a musical artist (violinist) by profession, she felt the need to express herself using colours. Painting for her is also an experiment: born left handed, she had been forced to re-learn being right-handed. Now she again paints with her left hand, which she feels gives her a much more direct connection between soul and brush. “
